When Apple announced the new iPhone 8/8+ and iPhone X, they confirmed users would be increasing the charging capabilities to 7.5w to match the supported mode for Qi chargers by the Wireless Power Consortium. Currently Apple is using hardware identifiers to restrict access to accessories and only the charging pads from Belkin and Mophie that Apple sells inshore will be able to take advantage of this increased power.

It’s unclear if Apple will open this to more third parties yet, but if they do it may be at a premium. A list of other changes in beta 3 of iOS 11 can be found here.
