Here in the U.K Apple Pay took a full year to roll out after the US, and when it didn’t not every bank accepted it immediately with some banks declaring they wouldn’t offer it at all then slowly giving in, one of the last banks to finally accept Apple Pay was Barclays Bank.

The reason banks didn’t want to accept Apple Pay was because up until this point they had the monopoly on card transactions and were able to set their own merchant fees and with Apple in the mix offering lower fees there was new competition.

Apple initiated a slow roll out and listed several stores on their site that accepted Apple Pay however in recent weeks and months more stores have quietly added Apple Pay but have not advertised it and even some staff do not realise that it is accepted in their stores. I have experienced four stores in the past month that staff didn’t know that customers could use Apple Pay, so we decided to start a list of stores that offer Apple Pay some of these are listed on Apple’s website whilst others are not on there.
