Apple TV 3rd generation gets an update

The third generation Apple TV has just received a software update alongside the release of tvOS 12.3 for the fourth generation and 4K Apple TV.

Rumours had previously suggested that the third generation Apple TV would get the new Apple TV support during the beta period.

We have just updated our old TV and can confirm the new Apple TV is there.

Apple has also released iOS 12.3 For the HomePod, iPhone and iPad, they have also released watchOS 5.2.1 to the public.

Apple has announced their new TV streaming service tv channels and tv+

Apple has announced their new TV streaming service called tv channels, users will have access to over the air subscription service where you only pay for what you want, with online and offline viewing. The current Apple TV app has been revamped so users can access all the services they subscribe to without having to leave the TV app.

The service will be available on Apple TV, iPad and iPhone and will be available this May and will come to the Mac in the fall, the App  will also be available to Roku, Fire tv and some smart TV’s. The Apple TV will be available to over 100 countries. Again Apple states that they will not share your viewing habits with anyone.

Apple also introduced tv+ their new streaming service with their own unique content such as Little America, the morning show by Jeniffer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, Toxic labour by Oprah Winfrey. Apple also introduced a new preschool show called helpsters using Sesame Street to introduce coding. Apple had a whole host of stars on stage to introduce their new content.

tv+ will be starting this fall and available globally on all Apple devices and smart TV’s that have the Apple TV app and as of yet no word on the cost.

Apple joins forces with Samsung and it’s a crucial move

Apple has announced that it is teaming up with Samsung to bring iTunes movie and TV show library for both 2018 and 2019 range of Samsung televisions.

Users will be able to buy and rent content from iTunes directly from the TV via a dedicated app. These tv’s will also include support for AirPlay 2.

This joint venture will be made available in 100 countries and is a cruical move for Apple as rumours that they are planning on releasing their own TV service.

To date the only other thirdparty service Apple has allowed access to its video library is Windows PCs and Apple needs to seriously increase its user base if they want to rival other tv services such as Amazon video and Netflix.

Apple does sell their own Apple TV box’s, however, these are at a much higher price than rivals. Adding AirPlay 2 will allow content to be streamed from Apple devices directly to the Samsung TV’s in over 190 countries.

Real Debrid: How to Enable in Kodi

real debrid

real debrid

Real Debrid is another article from Tasso’s Tips©®. With an increased interest on this service, here is a step by step set-up on how to install real debrid in Kodi.

What is Real Debrid

Real Debrid is an unrestricted down-loader. It allows you to download instantly at the best of your internet speed any files available on download platforms such as Uptobox and many others without any restrictions. (source) Real-Debrid is a Private company. Antonin LAROCHE is the Co-Founder & CEO. It’s main competitors are LinkSnappy, Zevera and Multihosters. As of July 2018, it has 41.2K fans on Facebook and 5.6K followers on Twitter. (source)

How to Install Real Debrid

Because real debrid is a paid service, it is recommended you create an account before proceeding. In order to complete this process, please use this link. If you have any questions about this service, please refer to their FAQ site found here.

real debrid

So lets begin; from the Kodi Home Page, select the Cog Icon as indicated above.

real debrid

Click Systems settings.

real debrid

While in the System Settings page, do the following steps:

  1. Make sure the “mode” is set to Expert. If it is not, simply move the cursor over the text and click/hit enter until it reads Expert.
  2. Move the cursor up to Add-ons.
  3. Then move the cursor right and then up to Manage Dependencies. Select to continue.

ResolveURL and URL Resolver

real debrid

I have included both universal resolvers, some prefer one over the other. I’ll leave that up to you to decide, but I happen to have both enabled in my kodi. As a result, both are set up exactly the same way.

real debrid

But for this article, I have selected ResolveURL as the example.

  • Photo A – Once you have selected your resolver of choice, click on Configure to start the process.
  • Photo B – In the left column, move the cursor down to Universal Resolvers. Move to the right and scroll down to Real Debrid.
  • Click on Priority for the next steps.

Setting Priority

real debrid

Consequently, a Numeric Keyboard will appear. This will be a Two (2) Step process. Starting with Photo A:

  • Using the Backspace key, click until the number 100 is removed.
  • Photo B: Either use the supplied keypad or if you have a Keyboard installed on your device enter the numbers 9 and 0. When completed, click Done.
  • Then click OK when you return to the previous page. This must be done in order to continue.

After selecting OK you will be returned to the Add-on page where you started from. Click on Configure again. Select Universal Resolvers and scroll down to Real Debrid again.

real debrid

As a result, the Priority is now set to 90. Why 90 ? I’ll explain that at the end of this article. We’re almost done here, great work so far. At this point you’ll need to select (Re)Authorize My Account.

Authorizing Real Debrid

real debrid

After a moment or two, a pop up will appear with an 8 digit code. Because there is a time limit, I like to open that url address shown above before I click on (Re)Authorize. It can be achieved on a PC/Laptop, Mobile Device or if you have a browser installed on your Device/Box. Where you enter that code is not important, but…………

real debrid

Because you need to have a Real Debrid account, the name you used for that account will appear as shown in Photo A. Enter the 8 Digit Code that you copied down first (it’s much easier trust me!) Select Continue. Photo B is the confirmation that the code entered is correct. You may now close that browser.

real debrid

Consequently, when you return to Kodi, you will see that Real Debrid Resolver is now Authorized.

In Conclusion

Real Debrid enhances your streaming files with a higher quality Video and Audio. Some say their buffering has stopped completely. While it may seem so, there is no guarantee of 100% buffer free. But because you are paying a service to access their more powerful servers, you should see a significant difference.

Why do I need to set Priority to 90 ? When looking for a universal resolver the stream source looks for the lowest priority number listed. When this was first decided on, 90 was just a random number selected that happened to be lower than 100. It could be 99 or 52, as long as it’s lower than 100.  I hope you have found this article informative and helpful. Please see our other excellent articles here.

How to Jailbreak your Apple TV 4

Today a jailbreak for the Apple TV 4 and tvOS 1.2-1.3 was released by the Electra team thanks to nitoTV and Jaywalker for the tvOS port. Below is a guide on how to Jailbreak your Apple TV 4:

1) Connect your Apple TV 4 to your computer via USB-C.

2) Download Cydia Impactor for Mac, Linux, or Windows to your computer, and open it.

3) Download the Electra v1.0.4 app from here.

4) Ensure that Impactor is showing your Apple TV as connected in its interface, and then drag the Electra.ipa file onto the Impactor window.

5) Hit Start and Impactor will prompt you for your Apple ID and password. Enter them. If you have two-step verification turned on for your Apple ID account, you cannot enter your normal password. Instead, log in to the Apple ID page, and request an app-specific password. Enter that into Impactor in the password field.

6) Impactor will now push the jailbreak app to your Apple TV 4. Once it’s complete, disconnect the Apple TV from your computer and connect it to your TV via HDMI.

7) The Electra app should now be visible on your tvOS home screen. Launch it.

8) Hit Jailbreak

9) Wait for the tool to do it’s job and once it has finished launch the new NitoTV app to enjoy new content.

If you are on 10.2.2 and want to go to 11.3. (You need blobs and MUST be on 4th gen AppleTV) follow this guide from nitoTV:

APPTV Skin Review

Apptv Skin is our next review from Tasso’s Tips and is an Apple TV inspired skin for Kodi. While it provides a very lightweight minimalist GUI, it also allows access to a number of advanced features not available in the ordinary AppleTV Interface. For a more detailed description about this skin, please see this link.

Installing the Apptv Skin

All of our Skin reviews are based on Krypton 17.6. If you have a newly installed version of krypton don’t forget to allow Unknown Sources by ;

  • Click Settings (cog).
  • Choose System Settings.
  • Select Add-ons.
  • Click Unknown Sources.
  • A pop-up will appear.

“Add-ons will be given access to personal data stored on this device. By allowing, you agree that you are solely responsible for any loss of data, unwanted behavior, or damage to your device. Proceed?”

After opening Kodi, in the Home Page:

  1. Select the Cog Icon located in the top left corner.
  2. Click on Interface.

Scroll down to AppTV and select to install.

As a result, the Add-on will now download and install all dependencies as shown in the photo above.

Finally, once installed, you will be given the option to accept/decline the change. Click Yes to continue.

Apptv Skin Home Page

Consequently, for the initial install only, the first screen to appear will be the Interface Settings/Skin menu. This is where you would return to change the current skin to a previous or new skin in the future.

Te next screen you will see after selecting the back button on your remote; ESC key on a keyboard or using the right button on a mouse. This is the System Settings menu, we will touch on this shortly. Lets move on shall we.

Home Page Menus

Unlike some other Skins, the Apptv skin appears to be rather “plain”. Have no fear, we’re about to show you how to make the Home Page look more familiar. But first lets discuss what is available to is now. Moving clockwise from the top left photo:

  • Videos– The Sub-menus listed here are Files, Library and Add-ons.
  • Movies– With Movies and Add-ons in the Sub-menu.
  • TV Shows– Has TV Shows and Add-ons.
  • Music– Music and Add-ons in the Sub-menu.

Our next group of photos starting from the top left corner are:

  • Add-ons– In this Sub-menu you’ll find Videos, Music, Pictures, Programs and Get More. Selecting Get more, will then open the My Add-ons, Install from Repository, Install from Zip File and Search Sub-menu.
  • Weather– Consequently, after setting up the weather add-on, you will see something similar to the photo shown above.
  • System- Has the Settings menu as shown in the last photo. But it also has the Quit toggle (select to close kodi) as well as the File Manager.

File Manager in Apptv Skin

Once you select File Manager in the System sub-menu,

  • the next screen (Photo A) will be the “root page”. As always, select Add source from the left side only to continue.
  • Photo B will be next, select None. You may have to double click to continue.

At this point, enter the URL of the Source using the supplied keyboard. Once you are happy with the spelling, select Done. You will then be asked to Name the source. Simply repeat the same process.

Changing Apptv Home Page Icons

First of all, I know there are many of you saying this doesn’t look anything like AppleTV at all ! Well lets see what we can do for you.

  1. In the Home Page, scroll to the far right and select Settings.
  2. In Photo A, scroll down and select Skin settings.
  3. Then select Home Menu as shown in Photo B.

This, Photo A, is the Customize Home Menu.

  1. Scroll to the left and click on Home menu type- Horizontal.  You will see the example of the Home Page menus as a confirmation of being Horizontal.
  2. Photo B will now show Three (3) options to choose from. Horizontal is the current view, so select Icon for the AppleTV App Icon.

As a result of selecting Icon, the page will immediately change to the Screen you see here.

Finally, after returning to the Home Page, all the Menus are now in Icon format. For the purposes of this article, I have added the text below each Icon for those who are new (like myself) to AppleTV and are unfamiliar with what each Icon represents.

In Conclusion

Finally was the second in our series of Skins that are available for Kodi. I hope you will enjoy using this skin and all it has to offer. For more quality tips and helpful blogs on a wide assortment of topics, please click here.
