Both Facebook and Google have been discovered abusing Apple’s enterprise program. The enterprise program allows companies to install apps on employees phones outside of the AppStore however both Facebook and Google have been using the program to allow users some as young as 13 to install VPN apps on their device.
Once the VPN’s are installed the companies are able to monitor the users internet activities, Facebook paid users up to $20 a month to install and run their “Research app”, and Google allows users to earn gift cards for installing and running their “Screenwise” app.
Apple has revoked Facebooks certificates meaning any apps installed using these certificates will now crash upon launch, Apple hasn’t responded to Google’s abuse yet but we can expect to see similar actions taking place.
