Netflix has a large subscription base however many people find that depending which country they live in makes a difference of what they can access. This means that people are turning to VPN’s to change their IP address for example someone living in the UK appears to be living in the US so they can subscribe to the American Netflix to access different content, it appears that Netflix is unhappy with this and has started taking steps since mid December to block this.
The Android application started to force Google DNS which now makes it harder to use DNS based location unblockers, and several VPN IP-ranges were targeted as well.
Thus far the actions are limited in scope, so not all VPN users may experience problems just yet. However, TorGuard is one of the VPN providers which noticed a surge in access problems by its users, starting mid-December.
