When Google released the Pixel 3 last year they changed the game with their camera and software and it left other companies scrambling to catchup. This week Apple announced the iPhone 11 and Night Mode which comes on automatically to get you the best nighttime shots.

Unfortunately if you do not plan on updating your device this year then you wont get this feature. Thankfully Apple’s cameras and software does have enough capabilities to allow third party apps to take advantage of new features on old devices.

This is not the first time we have seen a new feature exported to an old device, back when Apple first introduced Live Photos the jailbreak community were able to enjoy these features on devices such as the iPhone 5. The same is true with Night Mode and a third party app exists that lets you capture better low light images.

NeuralCam supports the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone6s, iPhone6s Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XR and the iPhone XS Max. We first came across NeuralCam from a 9to5Mac article where they said “NeuralCam is not just the best iPhone camera app for night shots, but it is head-and-shoulders above the other apps.”

We reached out to the developers to arrange a review of this app and we have to say we were blown away by the results. I was able to test the app on my iPhone XR and tried several shots. The App was able to give me brighter shots of people and objects compared to Apple’s own camera app. You can check out some more shots using Neural Cam here. Neuralcam costs just $2.99 (£2.99) and is worth every penny.
