A few days back we wrote how Apple had discontinued the iPod nano and iPod shuffle leaving just the iPod touch, yesterday Apple released firmware for the HomPod with the name “AudioAccessory1,1”.

We believe the killing of the iPods were purposely timed so Apple could only sell devices capable of playing Apple Music.

Which would help increase their services portfolio, which is something Apple is working hard at increasing. The HomePod firmware reveals that it runs a full iOS stack making it essentially an iPhone and uses an app called “SoundBoard” to integrate it with other devices.

Developer Troughton-Smith found references to a 32×32 LED matrix, which could possibly relate to the area on the top of the speaker that with the right density could display shapes and/or symbols.

What’s your thoughts on the death of Apple’s iPods.
