YouTube has followed the steps of Netflix by ditching the option for in-app purchase on iOS devices. In a statement YouTube said “YouTube TV no longer supports in-app purchases on iOS,” a YouTube spokeswoman said in a statement. “Apple continues to be an important partner for YouTube, and our users can still enjoy their favorite content across iOS devices.”
Apple currently takes a 30% cut of revenue for the first year and then 15% in the second year for recurring subscriptions, this cut means that services either have to make less money per customer or charge more for iOS users just to continue to make the same revenue.
YouTube says that subscribers who currently pay for YouTube TV via an App Store in-app purchase will have until March 13th to change their payment method or they will have their accounts automatically canceled on the first billing date after that date.
