When Apple launched iOS 14.2 to the public last week the company stopped signing iOS 14.1 and iPadOS 14.1 today. This means that people who have upgraded their devices to iOS 14.2 will no longer downgrade to iOS 14.1.
iOS 14.1 was released in October with bug fixes and initial support for iPhone 12 users, including compatibility with 10-bit HDR videos in the Photos app. IOS 14.2 arrived two weeks later with a range of improvements and additional features, including new emojis and new wallpapers.
Restoring an iPhone or iPad to a prior version of iOS can sometimes be useful for users who encounter major glitches after updating to the current version of iOS. If you’ve had some significant problems with iOS 14.2, sadly, you’re going to have to wait for a potential upgrade instead of downgrading to iOS 14.1.
