If you are not familiar with jailbreaking, it usually applies to removing iOS programme limitations placed by Apple allowing users to install applications outside the App Store and even to modify the whole device. To date Checkra1n, one of the most common jailbreaking software on iOS devices.
The successful jailbreak on the first generation of HomePod has been accomplished by a user known as L1ngL1ng, who also posted a screenshot on Twitter showing him accessing the root of the HomePod operating system with an SSH connection.
The attack workaround is now included in Checkra1n 0.12.1 update, which is now open to consumers. We are not in a position to see anything near as useful as a jailbreak on an iPhone but it is an interesting start which will hopefully inspire others to work on this, some things we could possibly see is the support of other music services or even the ability to add another voice assistant.
