When Tim Cook did an interview back in November 2015 talking about the new iPad Pro he said “Yes, the iPad Pro is a replacement for a notebook or a desktop for many, many people. They will start using it and conclude they no longer need to use anything else, other than their phones.”

I have to admit I was not convinced, the only iPad that I owned at the time was an iPad 3 and I could count on one has how often I used it. Since then the iPad Pro has received upgrades in size and specs and now in 2019 four years later I may be convinced.

The iPad Pro comes in with 11″ and 12.9″ with edge to edge display and iOS 12 has been a great update for the iPads. I have been fortunate to test the latest iPad Pro with Face ID and have to admit that it is a beautiful design and without the home button, the edge to edge screen makes it more appealing than my MacBook Air.

Currently, I own an iPad mini 4 running iOS 12.2 and the size is amazing for reading books and browsing the web and even downloading and accessing downloads using the files app, I pay monthly for 2TB of storage so storing my files is easy with the files app. The only downside to the iPad mini that I have come across is the options of third-party external keyboards.

Rumours that iOS 13 will be a revolutionary update for the iPad, in particular, has intrigued me and if true could mean that the iPad Pro will be even more appealing to users. Thankfully the iPad Pro has a Smart Keyboard available to buy from Apple directly and I honestly believe that paying close to $1,000 for an iPad Pro instead of over $1,000 for a MacBook actually makes more sense now than ever before.

The iPad Pro with a Smart Keyboard is more portable than a MacBook and allows you to do so much more since they introduced USB-c ports. Rumours also surfaced that iOS 13 might bring mouse support to iPad as an accessibility option which could help pro users switch as well.

Personally, I like the touch option instead of using a mouse and I have found myself opting more and more for my iPad mini than my MacBook Air. Thankfully WWDC19 is not too far away so we will finally see what iOS13 will actually bring and we will finally see if the iPad will become more of a Laptop killer.
